Here are our top FAQs:

You ask, we answer! We compiled our last 2000 emails from people in Barrie who had questions about counselling and psychotherapy.

Here's what people are asking:

Fees & Payment

Q: What is the cost per session?
A: Our rate is
$170 for a 50-minute session. This applies to both individual and couples sessions. Therapy is a long term relationship — most clients attend at least 8–12 sessions per concern  depending on their goals, progress, and ongoing stressors.

Q: Do you offer direct billing or take insurance?
A: We’re not set up for direct billing at this time, but most insurance companies offer quick reimbursement when you upload your receipt online. Be sure to confirm that your plan covers your therapist’s credentials (most of our team are
Registered Psychotherapists). If your insurance requires a psychologist, you can find one using www.psychologytoday.com.

Q: Are your services covered by OHIP or ODSP?
A: No, private counselling isn’t covered by OHIP, ODSP, Veterans Affairs, or NIHB. If you’re looking for free or lower-cost options, you can
dial 211 in Simcoe County to connect with community agencies like CMHA, Catholic Family Services, Kinark, or Seasons Centre. If your family doctor is part of the Family Health Team, you may be able to access sessions through their extended services.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: We accept
Visa and Mastercard. You can update your card info anytime through your JaneApp profile.

Booking & Availability

Q: How do I book a session?
A: You can view our therapists’ availability and book online anytime using our secure booking site: https://resetbarrie
.janeapp.com. No referral is required.

Q: Do you have evening or weekend appointments?
A: M
any of our therapists offer evening sessions, and a few provide limited weekend availability. You can view their live schedules online or join a waitlist for last-minute cancellations.

Q: Are you accepting new clients?
A: Yes — we are currently accepting new clients. If your preferred therapist’s calendar is full, you can join their waitlist directly through the booking page, or we'd be happy to connect you with another great therapist from our team.

Q: Do you offer virtual sessions?
A: Yes. We offer
in-person, virtual, and phone therapy options. Each therapist’s available formats are listed on the booking page.

Finding the Right Therapist

Q: How do I choose the right therapist for me?
A: Each of our therapists has a detailed profile under the
“About” section of our website. You can watch their videos, listen to their podcast clips, and get a good sense of their approach to psychotherapy. Still not sure? Email us at info@resetbarrie.ca and we can help you find a good fit.

Q: Do you offer counselling for children or teens?
A: We have limited space for children and support on a case-by-case basis. Several of our therapists support
teens and young adults. If your child is younger than 6, the SMDHU Healthy Babies Healthy Children program offers wonderful early support.

Q: Do you provide Christian counselling?
A: Yes — a few of our therapists integrate faith-based perspectives into therapy upon request. You can find this information in their profiles.

Couples & Family Therapy

Q: Do you offer couples counselling?
A: Yes. Our couples therapists work with a wide range of concerns including
infidelity recovery, communication breakdowns, emotional distance, and rebuilding trust. Each partner is interviewed separately in the first session so your therapist can get to know both of you.

Q: How many sessions do couples usually need?
A: Most couples attend
8–12 sessions, often starting weekly, then tapering to bi-weekly as progress builds.

Q: Do you offer family counselling?
A: Family sessions are limited and offered case-by-case. Please email
info@resetbarrie.ca to discuss your situation.

Therapy Process & Scope

Q: What can I expect in my first session?
A: Your first session serves as an
intake. You’ll share what brings you in, your history, and your therapy goals. Together, you and your therapist will make a plan for moving forward. For couples, your therapist will meet with each partner separately during the intake process to hear both sides of the story.

Q: Do I need a doctor’s referral?
A: No referral is needed — you can book directly as a private client.

Q: Can you prescribe medication or diagnose mental health conditions?
A: We don’t prescribe medication or perform psychological assessments. If you require a
diagnosis or medication, you can speak to your family doctor or connect with a psychologist via your local network or www.psychologytoday.com.

Cancellations & Receipts

Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: We ask for
48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions canceled with less notice are billed in full. You can cancel or rebook directly from your JaneApp profile.

Q: How can I get my receipt or invoice?
A: Receipts and invoices are stored in your
JaneApp account under “Billing.” If the session was booked under a dependent’s name, it will appear in their profile according to your account permissions.

Urgent or Crisis Support

Q: What if I need help right away or I’m in crisis?
A: If you’re in crisis or feeling unsafe, please
call 911 or dial 211 in Simcoe County to connect with a crisis worker immediately.
While we’d love to support you, our practice does not offer emergency or crisis counselling.

Students, Professionals & Collaborations

Q: Do you offer placements or supervision for students?
A: We’re not currently accepting
practicum or co-op students, as most of our therapists work part-time. We may, however, consider clinical supervision requests on a case-by-case basis. Please email info@resetbarrie.ca with your resume and details.

Q: Can I rent space at your clinic?
A: Occasionally, yes — please reach out to
info@resetbarrie.ca to discuss availability.

Q: Can I write a guest post or collaborate?
A: Thank you for your interest! We’re not accepting guest submissions or collaborations at this time.
