Two ways to meet
In-person in Barrie + virtual across Ontario
Getting Started With Counselling Is Simple
Starting therapy can feel uncertain. We've tried to make the process as straightforward and low-pressure as possible.
Find Your Therapist Match
Take our Therapist Match Quiz — a short, guided questionnaire that considers what you're facing, what kind of support you're hoping for, and your scheduling preferences. We use your responses to connect you with a therapist whose specialty, style, and availability suit your situation. You don't need to know exactly what you need before you start. The quiz helps figure that out.
Choose In-Person or Virtual Therapy
Once you've found a good match, decide how you'd like to meet. In-person sessions take place at our Barrie office at Unit 201 – 151 Essa Road. Virtual sessions are available through a secure platform and are open to clients anywhere in Ontario. Both formats deliver the same quality of care. Many clients use a combination of both depending on their week.
Book Your First Session
No referral is required. Book directly through our secure online booking system at resetbarrie.janeapp.com. You can view each therapist's live availability and choose a time that works for you. If your preferred therapist's schedule is full, you can join their waitlist or reach out and we'll help connect you with another great option from our team.
Meet, Reflect and Adjust
Your first session is a conversation, not a commitment. Your therapist will listen to what's brought you in, explain what therapy might look like, and help you build a direction that feels manageable. If the fit doesn't feel quite right, tell us. We can help you find someone else on our team. Finding the right therapist isn't always immediate — and we'd rather you find the right person than stay with the wrong one.
Find a Barrie Therapist You Can Trust
Good therapy starts with the right relationship. That's not a sentiment — it's something the research consistently supports. When clients feel genuinely understood and safe with their therapist, outcomes improve. Progress happens faster. People come back.
The challenge is that most practices ask you to pick from a list of names, with little guidance on who might actually suit your needs, your schedule, or your situation.
We do things differently at Reset.
Our team covers a wide range of specialties — trauma, couples counselling, adolescent therapy, anxiety, grief, anger, chronic illness, and more. Different concerns benefit from different expertise, and different people connect differently. Some clients prefer a direct, structured approach. Others need more space to explore. Some concerns call for EMDR; others call for CBT or a mindfulness-based approach.
Our strength is the breadth of our team and our ability to match you with the right person from the start.

Specialties across our team
Finding the Right Therapist Matters
Therapeutic fit matters as much as any technique or approach. Feeling safe, understood, and comfortable with your therapist directly shapes whether therapy works. That's why we built our Therapist Match Quiz — a guided tool that considers your concerns, your preferences, and the kind of support you're looking for, then points you toward a therapist who's a genuine fit.
Not sure where to begin? Take our Therapist Match Quiz and we'll help you find your way.
In-Person in Barrie or Virtual Across Ontario
We operate one physical office, located in Barrie at 151 Essa Road, Unit 201. In-person sessions take place there, in a private, welcoming environment.
Virtual psychotherapy sessions are also available and are offered to clients anywhere in Ontario. Many clients in Barrie, Innisfil, Orillia, Bradford, and surrounding communities access our team both ways — in person when it suits them, and virtually when life gets busy. Both formats deliver the full scope of our services.
Counselling & Psychotherapy Services in Barrie, Ontario
We support individuals, couples, and teenagers through a wide range of mental health concerns.

Individual Counselling
Life can become overwhelming. When it does, having someone in your corner — someone trained to listen without judgment and help you build real tools for change — makes a measurable difference.
Our registered therapists work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief and loss, chronic illness, anger, self-harm, social anxiety, self-esteem, addictions, and major life transitions.
Each session is shaped around your specific needs. We don't apply a one-size-fits-all model; we tailor the approach to you. Our team uses evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, mindfulness-based approaches, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and more — drawing on what suits you and your concerns best.
Sessions are 50 minutes. Most clients attend 8–12 sessions per concern, though the length of your work together will always be guided by your goals and your pace.

Couples Counselling & Relationship Therapy
Every relationship goes through hard seasons. But when communication has broken down, the same arguments keep surfacing, or trust has been damaged, those patterns rarely resolve on their own.
Our couples therapists in Barrie create a structured space where both partners feel heard. The work focuses on slowing things down, understanding what's really happening beneath the conflict, and rebuilding communication and connection from the ground up.
We work with couples navigating infidelity recovery, emotional distance, communication breakdowns, significant life stressors, differing values, and relationship transitions. In couples therapy, each partner is interviewed separately during the first session so your therapist can understand both perspectives clearly before beginning joint work.
Most couples attend 8–12 sessions, often weekly at first, then tapering as progress builds.

Teen & Adolescent Counselling
Teenagers today carry real pressures — academic expectations, social dynamics, identity questions, and family stress, all at once. When those pressures build without an outlet, anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation can follow.
Teen therapy at Reset gives adolescents a private, confidential space that belongs entirely to them. Our therapists who work with young people build genuine rapport by talking with teens, not at them.
We support teenagers navigating anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, self-harm, social struggles, grief, trauma, school-related stress, and identity questions. Several therapists on our team specialize in adolescent and young adult populations.

Virtual Therapy Across Ontario
In-person appointments are provided from our Barrie office. Virtual counselling is also available to clients across Ontario — the same team, the same quality of care, through a secure and private platform.
Clients tell us that virtual therapy removes meaningful barriers: no commute, no parking, no scheduling around travel. Whether you're in Simcoe County, the Greater Toronto Area, or further afield, distance doesn't have to keep you from quality care.

Therapy for What You're Facing

Anxiety, Stress & Burnout
Anxiety is one of the most common concerns we see — and one of the most treatable. Persistent worry, physical tension, avoidance, difficulty sleeping, and panic responses are all signs that the nervous system needs support. Our therapists use CBT, mindfulness, and practical coping strategies to help you manage anxiety in ways that actually last.
Depression, Grief & Life Transitions
Depression flattens things. It can make the people and activities you once loved feel distant, even unreachable. Grief does something similar — it disrupts your sense of what's normal and can linger longer than the people around you expect. Our therapists offer compassionate, non-judgmental support for both, and for the major life transitions that sometimes sit underneath them.
Trauma & PTSD
Trauma doesn't always come from a single dramatic event. It can stem from childhood experiences, emotional abuse, accidents, sudden loss, or any situation in which you felt unsafe or alone. Our trauma-informed therapists use EMDR, IFS, CPT, and IATP to help you process what happened — so it stays in the past where it belongs.
Relationships, Anger & Emotional Regulation
Behind most anger, there's something else — hurt, fear, or a sense of injustice that hasn't been heard. Anger management therapy at Reset isn't about suppressing what you feel. It's about understanding your reactions and developing the tools to respond from a more grounded place. We also support people working through relationship difficulties in individual therapy — boundaries, communication patterns, and rebuilding after conflict.
ADHD, Neurodiversity & Other Specialized Concerns
Several therapists on our team work with clients navigating neurodiversity, including ADHD, as well as concerns like chronic illness, self-esteem, self-harm, and addictions. If you're unsure whether your specific concern fits within what we offer, reach out — we're happy to point you toward the right person.
Meet Our Barrie Therapy Team
Choosing a therapist is a personal decision. We want you to feel informed and confident before you book.

Grace Yeomans, RP
Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished you were someone else? Anxiety doesn’t always look like worry.

Lindsay Tsang, RP
If you're struggling with feelings of shame, fear and hurt, I've been there too.

Melanie Lockhart, RP (Q)
If you tend to overthink or find yourself stuck in self-doubt, you’re not alone.
Registered Psychotherapists
Registered Psychotherapists (RPs) are regulated mental health professionals in Ontario, registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). RPs are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions through psychotherapy. Several members of our team hold this designation, with specialties spanning trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships, adolescent therapy, and more. Their individual profiles, including therapeutic approach, populations served, and availability, are listed on our team page.
Registered Social Workers
Registered Social Workers (RSWs) are regulated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), which maintains a public register of all registered practitioners. Social workers bring a holistic, systems-informed perspective to therapy — considering how family, community, and life context shape mental health. Our RSWs are trained therapists who offer individual and couples counselling across a range of concerns.
Registered Nurse
Our team also includes a Registered Nurse (RN), regulated by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Nursing expertise within a therapy setting adds a distinct dimension — particularly for clients navigating chronic illness, medical trauma, or concerns at the intersection of physical and mental health. The specific scope and clinical focus of our RN are detailed on their individual profile.

Have more questions? Visit our full FAQ page for details about insurance, receipts, children’s therapy, and more.
Do I Need a Referral to See a Therapist?
No referral is required. You can book directly with any therapist on our team through our online booking system at resetbarrie.janeapp.com. Some insurance plans do require a physician's referral for reimbursement purposes, so it's worth confirming your specific coverage before booking.
How Do I Choose the Right Therapist?
Each therapist on our team has a detailed profile that outlines their training, specialties, therapeutic approach, and the populations they work with. You can read through those profiles to get a sense of fit. If you'd prefer a guided recommendation, our Therapist Match Quiz narrows down the options based on your needs, preferences, and availability. You can also email us at info@resetbarrie.ca and we'll help match you directly.
Is Counselling Covered by Insurance?
Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider, your specific plan, and your therapist's professional designation. Many extended health benefit plans cover sessions with Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers in Ontario. We are not set up for direct billing at this time, but most insurers allow quick reimbursement when you submit your receipt online. Always confirm with your insurer that your plan covers your therapist's credentials before your first session.
What Can I Expect in My First Therapy Session?
Your first session is an intake conversation. Your therapist will listen to what's brought you in, ask about your history and goals, and work with you to build a plan that feels manageable. There's no pressure to have it all figured out. Some clients come in knowing exactly what they want to address; others arrive feeling a little lost. Both are fine. The first session is about getting to know each other.
How Much Does Counselling Cost in Barrie?
Our standard rate is $170 for a 50-minute session. This applies to both individual and couples sessions. Most clients attend at least 8–12 sessions per concern, though the overall length of your work will be guided by your goals and progress. To view therapist availability and book online, visit resetbarrie.janeapp.com.
Do You Offer Both In-Person and Online Therapy?
Yes. In-person sessions are available at our Barrie office — Unit 201, 151 Essa Road. Virtual therapy is offered to clients anywhere in Ontario through a secure, private platform. Some clients attend in person regularly; others prefer virtual. Many do both, depending on the week. We make it easy to switch between formats as your life changes.
How Long Will I Need Therapy?
The length of therapy depends on your goals, the concerns you're working through, and how frequently you attend. Some clients complete their goals in a handful of sessions. Others benefit from longer-term support. Your therapist will check in regularly to make sure the work continues to serve you — and will adjust the plan as needed.
Are You Accepting New Clients?
Yes — Reset Counselling & Psychotherapy is currently accepting new clients. If your preferred therapist's calendar is full, you can join their waitlist through the booking page, or we can connect you with another therapist on our team who has availability and is a good match for your needs.
Ready to Find a Therapist Who Feels Right for You?
You don't need to know exactly what kind of therapy you need before reaching out. You don't need the right words for what you're going through. And you don't need a referral.
Tell us what you're facing. Take the Therapist Match Quiz. Or browse our team and book directly. However you prefer to start, we'll help you find someone you trust — a therapist you actually want to keep coming back to.
That's the Reset difference.
