Compassionate Therapy for Alliston and New Tecumseth

Alliston is one of the principal communities in the Town of New Tecumseth, located in southern Simcoe County. Many residents here commute, raise families, manage businesses, and carry the same mental health pressures that people face everywhere — and access to quality therapy has not always been straightforward in this area.

You don't have to be at a breaking point to reach out. People come to us for all kinds of reasons: persistent worry, low mood, a relationship that keeps running into the same problems, a loss that hasn't fully been processed, or simply a sense that life feels heavier than it should.

Therapy offers a confidential, non-judgmental space to make sense of what's going on and build real strategies for moving forward.

At Reset, we take the question of therapist fit seriously. Our approach is collaborative — we listen to your goals, explain what therapy can realistically offer, and help you find the right person for your specific situation. Alliston-area clients access our services virtually or visit our Barrie clinic directly.

Couples and Relationship Counselling

Couples therapy helps partners slow down, understand each other more clearly, and address the patterns that keep creating distance or conflict. We support couples navigating communication breakdowns, trust issues, boundaries, recurring disputes, and emotional disconnection.

Each partner is heard, and the focus is on building stronger, healthier relationship patterns — not assigning blame. Whether your relationship has experienced a significant rupture or a gradual drift, Reset's couples therapists provide a structured, compassionate space for the work.

Teen and Adolescent Counselling

Adolescence brings real pressure — academic demands, social dynamics, identity questions, and family complexity often converge at once. Teen therapy at Reset gives young people a space that belongs entirely to them: a confidential, non-judgmental setting where they can process what's happening and build emotional regulation skills that carry forward.

Our therapists who work with adolescents are skilled at building genuine rapport with young people. Therapist matching ensures teens are connected with the right clinician for their situation.

Mental Health Concerns We Help With

Our Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers address a wide range of mental health and emotional wellbeing concerns. Every client comes to us with a different situation — what follows are some of the most common areas we work in, though this list is far from exhaustive.

  • Anxiety, Depression and Stress

Anxiety and depression are among the most common reasons people seek therapy — and both respond well to treatment. We support clients managing constant worry, low mood, burnout, emotional overwhelm, social anxiety, and self-esteem challenges. Therapy helps you understand what's driving these patterns and build the coping skills to respond differently. Many clients notice meaningful changes within the first several sessions.

  • Trauma and PTSD

Trauma results from many types of experiences — not only single dramatic events. Childhood experiences, accidents, sudden loss, and prolonged emotional stress all leave marks on the nervous system. Our trauma-informed psychotherapy team uses approaches including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and other evidence-based methods to support clients in processing traumatic experiences safely and effectively.

  • ADHD, Grief and Life Transitions

We support clients navigating ADHD and neurodiversity, grief and loss, and significant life transitions. These experiences often affect emotional regulation, identity, relationships, and daily functioning in ways that take time to untangle. Whether you're adjusting to a major life change, processing a loss, or seeking support around attention and executive function, our therapists help you build practical tools alongside deeper self-understanding.

  • Relationship and Family Challenges

Interpersonal difficulties — in partnerships, families, or broader relationships — form one of the most common threads in therapy. We help clients improve communication, set healthier boundaries, navigate conflict, and understand the relational patterns shaping their lives. Family dynamics and parenting challenges are also areas our therapists address. If your relationships feel stuck, therapy provides the tools and insight to move forward.

Evidence-Based Therapy Approaches

Reset's therapists draw on a range of evidence-based treatment approaches rather than applying a single method to every client. What works for anxiety may differ from what works for trauma or relationship distress. Your treatment plan is shaped by your specific concerns, goals, and how you respond over time. Below are the primary approaches our clinicians use.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps clients identify the thought patterns that fuel anxiety, depression, and unhelpful behaviours — and learn to respond to them differently. It's practical, structured, and carries one of the strongest research bases in psychotherapy.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) extends this by incorporating values clarification and psychological flexibility. ACT proves particularly useful for chronic stress, identity challenges, and situations where trying to control thoughts and feelings hasn't produced lasting relief.

EMDR, CPT and Trauma-Informed Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) works directly with the way traumatic memories are stored in the nervous system — helping them lose their emotional charge without requiring clients to narrate experiences in detail. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) targets the beliefs that sustain trauma-related distress. Both approaches are used by Reset's trauma-informed therapists to support clients managing PTSD and complex trauma histories.

Emotionally Focused and Relational Approaches

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) draws on attachment theory to help clients — and couples — understand and reshape the emotional patterns driving disconnection and conflict. Relational and psychodynamic approaches explore how past experiences shape present behaviour in relationships and daily life. These modalities are particularly effective when emotional patterns feel entrenched or hard to shift through thought-based work alone. The right approach depends on your goals and how you engage in therapy.

Why Choose Reset Counselling and Psychotherapy

Choosing a therapy provider is a significant decision. When it comes to mental health, credentials, professional standards, and therapeutic fit all matter. Here's what sets Reset Counselling & Psychotherapy apart as a provider for clients in Alliston and across Simcoe County.

Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers

Every clinician at Reset holds a regulated designation — Registered Psychotherapist (RP), Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), or Registered Social Worker (RSW). RPs are regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO); RSWs are regulated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Both designations carry rigorous professional standards, ongoing education requirements, and direct accountability to a regulatory body.

Our team also participates in ongoing clinical supervision and peer consultation — which means you're always working with clinicians who are actively developing their practice and held to a high standard of care.

Find Your Best Therapist Match

One of the strongest predictors of therapy outcomes is the quality of the therapeutic relationship. That's why we make it straightforward to find a therapist whose approach, specialty, and availability fit your needs. Our therapist matching quiz walks you through key questions — about your concerns, preferred style, and session format — and connects you with the right clinician from our team.

Fees, Insurance & What to Expect

Before booking your first session, here's what you need to know about cost, insurance, and how the process works.

Session Fees and Receipts

Sessions at Reset are $170 for 50 minutes, for both individual and couples sessions. Payment is accepted by Visa or Mastercard through your JaneApp client profile, and receipts are provided for every session. Psychotherapy and counselling therapy became GST/HST-exempt in Canada in 2024, so no sales tax applies to your sessions.

Extended Health Insurance

Many extended health benefit plans cover psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or Registered Social Worker (RSW). We do not offer direct billing, but receipts include all the details your insurer needs — registration number, session date, and provider credentials.

Coverage varies by plan and employer. We recommend confirming your plan's provider-designation eligibility before booking. See our full insurance FAQ.

Your First Therapy Session

Your first session is an intake — a chance to share what brings you in, your history, and what you're hoping to work toward. Your therapist will listen carefully, explain what therapy might look like with them, and help you build a plan that feels realistic.

Confidentiality and consent are covered at the start. You don't need to have everything figured out before you arrive. If the fit doesn't feel right, we'll help you find someone better suited. See what to expect.

  • How long are counselling sessions?

Standard sessions at Reset are 50 minutes. Most clients attend at least 8–12 sessions per concern, depending on their goals, progress, and ongoing stressors. Some clients work through a specific issue in fewer sessions; others prefer longer-term support. Your therapist will check in regularly to make sure the pace and direction remain right for you.

  • What if I don't know which therapist to choose?

That's exactly what our therapist matching quiz is designed for.
